A Cause for Paws President Tony Raimondo has been rescuing animals for over 20 years. He started rescuing after he noticed a large number of strays in and around the buildings he owned and managed in the Bronx, NY. He was moved to take them in and provide them with veterinary care until he found them permanent homes. In June of 2000, Tony and animal trainer Lydia DesRoche co-founded A Cause for Paws.
A Cause for Paws Vice President Crista Alfieri joined Tony in 2007, and together they rescued, fostered and found loving homes for many animals.
A Cause for Paws is a 100% volunteer organization that rescues dogs and cats from the streets of NYC and surrounding areas, as well as from the city's kill shelters. On average, we rescue 60 dogs and cats per year from the streets and shelter system. We provide our rescued animals with veterinary care, including spaying and neutering. Our rescues also receive behavioral and obedience training to address any issues they may have and help to prepare them for their new life in a permanent, loving home. We have no shelter of our own, so they are placed in foster homes until they are adopted by a new family through a thorough screening process.
Our goal is to educate the public about the benefits of spaying and neutering, create awareness about the consequences of breeding and buying and continue to save the lives of animals. Every penny of our donations goes directly towards the care of our animals.
